Games of the week for 1/24/2010: Talking Psycho edition

Recommended Videos

Jim’s traveling this week, so you’re getting your Games of the Week fix from a different source. Thrilling.

You’ve no doubt seen this video by Miles Fisher, where he covers a Talking Heads song and putsit to a video where he mimics American Psycho. That movie already had a Talking Heads song in its soundtrack but it was clearly the wrong choice both metaphorically and literally. It’s also probably NSFW, somewhere about the point they recreate the threesome scene.

Anyway, I don’t care if you’ve seen it before because it’s awesome and should be watched again and again. Also, games were played by people this week. What follows is a chronicle of said game playing. You can, of course, discuss what you have been playing in the comments. I think that’s how this is supposed to work.

Sterling: Loads of MAG, while getting considerably more drunk. Started the day kicking absolute ass and my playing got worse and worse before the big 256-player battle against Zipper. I believe their plan was to fill us full of so much free wine and beer that by the time the final battle came, we were all too fucked to beat them. Did not entirely work. Anyway, the review’s coming Monday, so enjoy that.

Between that, I’ve been playing “Remember how shit London is” and Final Fantasy VII on the PSP for my many lengthy flights. Needing to get home soon so I can get to my BioShock 2 and Blood Bowl

North: Not to sound like a broken record, but I’m playing Final Fantasy XIII. I’m at the very end today, and I’m certain I’ll beat it this weekend. I don’t know, maybe it’s because I skipped some optional missions, but there was a huge difficulty spike. I’m getting my ass handed to me now. I told the guys in the office this earlier, but I actually wore out an original SIXAXIS playing this game.

Razak: I’m simply waiting for Desperate Struggle next week so I’m going back and perfecting my NSMB Wii skills and tearing through Spirit Tracks. Yea, Zelda and Mario at the same time. I couldn’t be happier.

Toletino: Been playing the Star Trek Online beta, and hating GiantBomb’s Jeff Gerstmann for making me seriously consider getting a lifetime subscription. In an effort to stop myself that, I’ve started doing my taxes.

Concelmo: Finished Darksiders (LOVED IT!), and started on the nostalgic revisiting of Final Fantasy VIII and The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess. FFVIII is still a great game, but, all these years later, I still can’t fully embrace the Draw system.

Twilight Princess, on the other hand, is a game I am loving even more since the first time I played it three (!) years ago. It is such a great Zelda game, and inexplicably dismissed by a lot of fans.

I am having such a great time with it, that I feel a feature about its epicness coming on soon … 🙂

Ross: I played through and completed VVVVVV this week, which is a fantastic game. I also played 1 v 100 for the first time since the beta, and I forgot how much fun it was.

Niero: Since we just moved I’ve had a solid week of Furniture Assembler 3,  Box Unpacker: Cable’s Revenge, and Puzzle Socku.  My only saving grace has been ghetto-rigging Rock Band 2 in the living room on a projector.  Also, my ION drum set just came in so I’m going to enjoy it this weekend. Whee!

Perlee: I’ve gone back this week to demo diving on XBLA. Go pick up ten or so demos, indie games included, and good to go. There’s some really terrible games on that service, but occasionally, something with a really cool idea comes out. There was this awful one called Hypno, but had a neat, bare-bones mind control element.

Also, I don’t know if you know this about Indie Games, FMV of neighborhood girls awkwardly reading poorly written dialoge is 2010’s trend of the year. You heard it here first, people.

Gutierrez: Jerking off to all things Mass Effect 2. No seriously, I do the dirty with my blue pillow which I [call] Liara.

Chester: Playing BioShock 2, a bit of Tatsunoko Vs. Capcom, and still working through Darksiders. Videogames!
