The first in a series of seven “microtitles” for iOS; new shmup slated for 2014
ROTOLLA, the puzzle debut from Prior Games — composed of key members of Digital Reality which co-developed 2012’s amazing shmup Sine Mora — is now available on iOS for iPad and iPhone. ROTOLLA is a falling-block puzzler that blends Super Hexagon and Tetris together to create a unique game, where the player rotates the blocks and match colors, as a soundtrack by Akira Yamaoka (Silent Hill series) plays.
The name of the game is derived from “rotate” and the Hungarian word for a spinner’s weasel, “motolla.” It’s the first in a series of iOS games to be released this year by Prior. Inspired by Nintendo’s Art Style series, the studio is planning on releasing four “microgames” in 2013 and three more in 2014.
Later in 2014, Prior Games co-founder and Sine Mora creative director Theodore Reiker plans to create another Japanese-Hungarian co-developed shooter — currently codenamed Project Verona.
“It will be more conservative in its gameplay and less ambiguous in its storytelling,” Reiker said, in an interview with Joystiq.
