Let’s give a warm welcome to Destructoid’s new Community Playdate Manager!
[Yes, those are my kids. And yes, I know they are awesome.]
It’s been almost two years to the day since I took over writing the front page Friday Night Fights posts here on Dtoid, and I haven’t missed a single week since. (That’s over one million FNF posts, for those of you who know math good like me.) In that time, we’ve brought you some awesome community playdates (some of which were featured on Xbox Live), given out lots of FNF-themed prizes, and even commissioned a new Friday Night Fights banner which will feature the avatars of over 40 Dtoiders duking it out in a giant brawl when all is said and done. Not a bad legacy, if I do say so myself!
In spite of all that, I’ve been feeling lately like it’s time to bring some new ideas to the table to reinvigorate this long-standing Dtoid tradition, so last week I called up my friend Chillybilly and asked him if he was interested in taking over the job; he couldn’t have been more excited. And so, it is with great pleasure that I welcome in the newest member of Destructoid’s community team, Bill Platt!
As Playdate Manager, Bill will be handling all the front page Friday Night Fights and Team Fortress 2sday posts from here on out, as well as any other community playdates we happen to do (hint: we’re going to be doing a lot more). Playdates are nothing new to Bill — he’s been curating the Xbox FNF blog for years now — but he brings with him a fresh perspective and energy that I think will go a long way toward making our community gaming sessions more exciting and varied than ever.
Of course, I won’t be going anywhere — I’m still your Community Manager. But my hope is that, with Bill in charge of this part of my job, I’ll be free to focus my efforts on other awesome things, both on and offsite.

New to FNF? Read this! Each week, a bunch of us Dtoiders get together to play videogames online! It’s a 100% community-run event, so feel free to join in or even host something yourself!
The planning for FNF starts in the forums, where community members sign up to host matches and post their pertinent details (game, time, Gamertag, etc.). Then, every Friday, reminder posts go up in the community blogs thanks to a dedicated group of volunteers, and I recap it all here on the front page to give it a bit more exposure.
To join in, simply send a friend request to the match host! If you’d rather host something yourself, sound off in the comments section below!
