Fortnite Switch players won’t have to deal with Nintendo’s convoluted app to chat

Starting Thursday

During the post-E3 Direct Nintendo stream, a few more details came to light for several Switch titles: most notably the brand new Fortnite port that just dropped today.

Epic Games kind of just nonchalantly blew our minds during the stream, explaining that Fortnite Switch will utilize a chat system that just…works instantly when plugging in a microphone. You might remember that previously Nintendo asked players to use an app with a MacGyver setup that’s so bad that Discord even once famously asked to fix it.

Starting Thursday you’ll be able to use the feature when it’s patched in, and…I’m sure Nintendo’s support line is being flooded by “why doesn’t it always work like this” questions. The bottom line? It seems like if a developer is up for it, it can happen, so there’s hope that Nintendo could get their act together on their own first-party games.
