Gil Kenan, director of Monster House
The Five Nights at Freddy’s film adaption just got a director in Gil Kenan. Kenan directed the Oscar-nominated film Monster House, kid-friendly action-adventure flick City of Ember, and the recent remake of the horror classic Poltergeist, which received 74%, 53%, and 33% respectively on Rotten Tomatoes, an aggregator of movie and TV reviews.
Perhaps this is a chance for Kenan to shine in the spotlight again after his last two films failed to get much traction. The Five Nights at Freddy’s series has some pretty deep lore that is far darker than what you’d expect for a series that started with a security guard in a knockoff Chuck E. Cheese’s, so I’d imagine a film adaption would be rather difficult to get right.
Also, I’ve seen people say that Gil Kenan is an Oscar-nominated director, but that is false; Monster House was nominated for best animated feature, but Kenan was never nominated for best director.
