First-person roguelike Eldritch is one to watch

More than meets the eye

When I saw this trailer for Eldritch earlier in the week, I wasn’t convincednot enough to write a post here, anyway. After spending some time with an alpha build of this first-person Lovecraftian roguelike from Minor Key Games, however, I had to fire up the ol’ editor.

I’ve been struggling to figure out what, exactly, sold me on the game that wasn’t present in the video. Something about Eldritch just feels right. The developers, who are twin brothers that previously worked on games like Borderlands and BioShock 2, say they were inspired by the works of Looking Glass Studios. I was on a System Shock kick recently — that might be it.

Pre-orders for Eldritch are priced at $15 and will include beta access later this month, but if you’d rather wait this one out, there’s a Steam Greenlight page that could use your support. The full release is happening on October 21, 2013. Also, as cute as some of those enemy designs might initially appear, the ungodly sounds they emit are terrifying.
