First announced during EVO 2016, and later confirmed for a January 2018 date at Tokyo Game Show that September, we finally have a hard confirmation date for the inaugural EVO Japan Championship

Coming January 26-28th, 2018, Evolution Championship Series: Japan will take place at Akibahara UDX. Much like its North American counterpart, this tournament welcomes players from around the world. Notably a new tournament, [sài], leading to EVO Japan will happen this May 20-21 with three titles: Guilty Gear Xrd REV 2, Tekken 7: Fated Retribution, and a third title to be confirmed at a later date. It’ll feature the same double elimination rules as EVO and will be free to enter.

More fighting game tournaments are always a good thing.
