Final Fantasy XIV has a pretty amazing surprise for hardcore raiders

Omega Savage’s secret final encounter

Recommended Videos

Yesterday, the Savage difficulty of the Omega raid dropped in Final Fantasy XIV.

For the uninitiated this is basically the “hardcore” mode on top of the first regular Omega wing — a collective of encounters for the 1% of raiders which require a good deal of communication and skill to complete. Over time more and more folks will likely tackle them with crescendoing gear, but for now they’re not going to be seen by the vast majority of the playerbase.

That includes this special new fight that’s exclusive to Savage. If you don’t want any spoilers, whether you’re in a progression static or just in general, don’t continue reading.

Spoilers:

Yep! Just like a core Final Fantasy boss, Exdeath morphs into Neo Exdeath mid-fight with one of the coolest transitions I’ve ever seen in a game. It helps that Exdeath is one of the more memorable final encounters in the history of the series, as he’s one of several foes (like Kefka) that doesn’t give way to the “real final boss,” — he becomes it.

Currently I’m working on Savage 2 with my i320 Paladin, though I don’t have a dedicated static anymore. This fight, however, is making me reconsider joining another one.
