How to download FFXIV in 2024 (Steam, PC, PS5, Xbox)

Final Fantasy XIV is available on a lot of different platforms and each one has its own method to install the game. With Dawntrail around the corner and the full Xbox release just days away, here’s how to install FFXIV on every platform. 

Whether you’re playing on PlayStation or through Steam, you need to know how to install Final Fantasy XIV because, well, you can’t play it if you’ve not installed it. The main aspect of this, regardless of what platform you’re playing on, is linking your account to a Square Enix account.

How to link your account with Square Enix

To link your account with Square Enix, you’ll need to head over to the Mogstation and either log in or register. Once you’ve done this, you’ll need to select “Add new service account” on the menu to the left of the page. 

In the next window, you’ll be able to either purchase the full game or register a game that you’ve already purchased. Registering will allow you to pay your subscription, purchase new expansions, and manage additional extras such as collector’s editions. 

How to install FFXIV on PC or Mac

To install FFXIV on a PC (without Steam) or Mac, you’ll need to download the FFXIV Client. Once you’ve done this, you’ll be able to log into your Square Enix account through the Client, and if you’ve purchased the game, it will install via the Client itself. 

How to install FFXIV via Steam

To install FFXIV via Steam, locate it in the Store and purchase it. Once the game is added to your Library, you’ll need to download it and then link your Steam account to your Square Enix account. 

How to install FFXIV on PlayStation

To install FFXIV on PlayStation, you need to purchase and download the game from the Final Fantasy XIV store page on the PlayStation Store. Once you’ve done this, link your account and you’re ready to go. 

It’s worth noting that whichever details you use when registering your account with Square Enix will be permanently linked, so you need to be careful and make sure you link the right accounts because this link cannot be undone once set. 

How to install FFXIV on Xbox

The FFXIV Xbox installation process is the same as the PlayStation installation process. Navigate to the Xbox store and purchase the game before downloading it. Once downloaded, you’ll need to link your account with Square Enix. 

Again, once the link is created, you’ll be unable to change or cancel it, so it’s worth being extra careful to avoid mistakes during this process.
