‘Command battle system might not work’
The Final Fantasy VII remake is kind of a big deal. It absolutely blew up E3 — heck, it blew up the entire day before it was even announced, as it was leaked hours before Sony’s conference. But Square Enix has some big shoes to fill, and producer Yoshinori Kitase spoke to Famitsu recently regarding the direction it’s taking with the battle system.
“We’re starting to see the visual direction. On the other hand, we’re currently working out the battle system and such through trial-and-error. Since there’s a possibility that the command battle system of the old days might not work today, we’re thinking hard about what kind of direction we can take it. Normally, when you do a remake, it becomes somewhere along the lines of a familiar action RPG, so we’re looking at how we can put out something like Final Fantasy VII while still surprising players.”
“Starting to see the visual direction” implies that there is quite a long way to go with this project, but it gives Square Enix plenty of time to hype it up before it finally drops. I just really want to see how they handle the whole Don Corneo sequence in HD.
