Next Generation managed to catch up with Reggie Fils-Aime, COO of Nintendo of America, to have a word with the man, prior to the launch of the Wii in a few days time. As you all know, Reggie is the messiah of hope to Nintendo fans … even from a completely unbiased point of view, I think the man has an incredible ability to turn peoples’ heads without making ludicrous statements or putting down the competition. This instance was no different, judging by what Next Generation had to say.
Take, as an example, this little tidbit from their talk with him:
We ask about Sony’s troubles, and about the delay of PS3 in Europe. What does that mean for Nintendo?
“It means that I’m going to have a great holiday,” says Fils-Aime. “It means that, with our strategy, we are going to have a fantastic holiday on Wii as well as on DS. Are my competitors making some mistakes? Yes they are. But I‘ll tell you this: Sony is a formidable company and I respect them and I don’t take them lightly. We have to do what we need to do, let them do what they’re going to do. If they continue to make mistakes that’s their problem not mine. We are focused on making sure that we are going to be successful.
He also stated that Nintendo’s goal was to eventually make Wii the dominant console on the market. He didn’t even mention Microsoft (looks like Nintendo and Microsoft don’t consider each other competition … only MS is way less nice about how they say that).
