FEAR-like FPS Trepang2 locks and loads on PC June 21

I probably should play Trepang1 first

Team17 has announced that Trepang Studios’ effects-filled supernatural FPS will be hitting PC on June 21, 2023. Trepang2 is billed as a love letter to “the fast-paced and over-the-top FPS games of the mid-2000s,” and by that, they mean 2005’s F.E.A.R.

Trepang2 puts you in the super-shoes of a super-soldier who is busted out of a Government black site. They’ve been given a super-hammer, and everybody else looks a lot like nails. You’ll be able to upgrade your superpowers, giving you access to slow motion, invisibility, and super-human speed.

A trailer has dropped alongside the announcement that shows off some dim environments and bloody combat. Trepang2 seems particularly proud of its dismemberment systems, and why shouldn’t it be?

Trepang2 is shaping up to be a slick homage to F.E.A.R. My only concern is that a few superpowers aside, it does seem to be sticking rather close to the aesthetic of that game. Industrial environments and offices are all poorly lit: check. That said, I loved F.E.A.R. It came out around the time that I built my first gaming rig, so it was fun to have something that pushed it a little. I was in awe of the graphics and AI, and even today, it’s a solid shooter. Hopefully, Trepang2 can live up to that. I’ll probably be checking it out.

Trepang2 is coming to PC on June 21, 2023. You can try the demo right now.
