Champions mode in FC 27 is getting a massive matchmaking overhaul, and EA Sports has already announced plans to make it stricter. While the change might work for one set of players, its true potential can be a matter of debate right now.

FC 27 Champions mode will feature stricter matchmaking

The general matchmaking for Champions mode will become much stricter, as EA Sports has announced. The team plans to roll this out before the next set of Champions matches goes live later this weekend.

The first week of Champions was rife with mismatches. At one point, I had a 4-1 record and matched someone with a 0-4 record. Another time, I was on a 9-5 run and met someone with a 3-5 record. It’s clear I had an advantage on paper in both cases, and the matchmaking can hardly be described as equal.

I am all for skill-based champions, but there should be parity. The kind of matchmaking we saw happening on the first weekend will be detrimental to the game’s greater health. It will also demotivate newer players from playing the mode.

It seems EA Sports believes something similar, which may be why it is looking to make the change. Once the matchmaking gets stricter, you can expect to find players closer to your own skill level.

If you are more skilled than the average player, this could be slightly detrimental. Opinions are pretty split in the middle. Some feel that last week’s matchmaking mishap resulted in players having more fun, and they are disappointed about the upcoming change. And, you know, there are those who called it “trash.”
