Fabular brings its cool medieval spaceships to Kickstarter

Top-down space adventure

If Fabular: Once upon a Spacetime hadn’t won me over with its “medieval space folktale” premise, the frog king would’ve gotten me. But I haven’t committed that name to memory yet. Fabular. Fabular. Typing it out helps. Since Steven covered the teaser trailer, developer Spiritus Games has taken the project to Kickstarter with what should be a very attainable crowdfunding goal.

“The player controls the King’s youngest heir who is on a mission to reclaim the Sun itself, stolen and caged by the dreadful League of Black Knights who terrorize the realm as if they were a Seven-Headed Dragon. The King sent his army, his most loyal men and his two older sons after the Black Knights but all of them failed. It is now down to his youngest to go across seven mythical Realms, defeat each Black Knight and restore equilibrium to the Kingdom.”

Story and theme aside, I am also all about these character designs. Even the ships have hints of personality with weapons like lances, crossbows, and whirling saw blades. I’m less into the roguelike leanings, but I’d be willing to put up with procedural generation if the combat stays engaging.

Spiritus is aiming for a release next year on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
