Everyone in Valkyria Chronicles cameos in the sequel

Practically everyone, at least. While earlier last year we found out that players could draw Valkyria Chronicles’ lead characters Alicia Melchiott and Welkin Gunther out of retirement in the PSP-bound sequel, it seems that Sega have a lot more return appearances in mind for the game.

Besides two versions of Alicia (one whose character sprites are based on the TV anime and one based on the game) and Welkin, characters Lamarre, Mintz and Julius (of the anime and manga adaptations) can also join the young students of the Gallian Royal Military Academy.

That’s all well and good, but the most recently announced set of cameos feels a bit…wrong, for reasons I can’t get into without spoiling the first game. For example, players who have a Valkyria Chronicles save file on their PS3 can unlock Isara Gunther for duty (via PSP-to-PS3 connectivity).

Sega will also be posting special unlock/download codes on the official Valkyria Chronicles 2 website in February (following the January 21st release) that will enable the use of Faldio Landzaat and Maximillian.Yes, Maximillian, Isara and Faldio will be in Valkyria Chronicles 2.

You may not get the significance of those cameos unless you’ve played the game (or read Chad Concelmo’s great writeup of the ending), but that’s pretty significant, and not in the best of ways. Obviously I don’t have to use them in the game, but I just hope that these old faces’ abilities don’t upstage those of the actual lead characters.

What about you guys? Is this wrong, or is it really wrong?
