E3: Me as a bobblehead, made in Kinect Fun Labs

Recommended Videos

I got some hands-on time with the newly announced Kinect fun Labs. Today they wanted to show off two technologies they’re working on for Kinect: People Scanning and Object Capture. They let me make a bobblehead of myself, so I thought I’d share it with you. That would be done via the People Scanning tech, obviously.

The scanning of my body was very easy. I stood up and lined up with a outline on the screen to capture my body. Even the detail on the shirt I was wearing showed up clearly. For the face, I had to lean in close to the Kinect sensor. The system processed for only a couple of seconds and spit out a pretty good Dale bobblehead.

I was able to record my voice to put into the bobblehead. A Microsoft rep said, “Say something!”

Of course, I said “something. After that I slapped my own face over and over. You can see the end result in the above video.

We’ll have more on how Kinect Fun Labs works for you very soon.
