E3 10: Kinect Joy Ride brings kart racing to Kinect

Recommended Videos

Confirming all that speculation about the transition of Joy Ride from a free-to-play XBLA arcade racer, Microsoft announced today that Joy Ride is now Kinect Joy Ride. Clearly, just as you’d expect, the game now uses the Kinect device’s motion control, with the rep from the dev team showing off the title in action.

It actually looks very much like the title shown last year, however, now the player uses both hands held up to re-enact the motion of using a steering wheel. Tilting forward seems to make the car accelerate, and the rep, with her verbal expositions of “boost!” and “flip,” seemed to offer some alternative ways of doing what kart racers have done for years. Tricks, boosts, and all that jazz.
