Major story spoilers follow: you’ve been warned
What happens to Zelda at the end ofĀ Tears of the Kingdom?
In case you didn’t recover all of the Geoglyph memories and didn’t fully grasp the backstory of Zelda becoming a dragon, here’s a quick refresher. To save the kingdom of Hyrule Zelda made a great sacrifice, offering herself up as a vessel (in the form of a dragon) to charge up the Master Sword for centuries to defeat the Demon King Ganondorf. Link finds and acquires this charged-up Master Sword during the course of Tears of the Kingdom‘s story (if you didn’t get it when you’re “supposed to,” and rushed to the end, Zelda will deliver it before the final bout).
After fighting off the humanoid Ganondorf at the very end of Tears of the Kingdom, you’ll be whisked away to the skies of Hyrule to take on hisĀ Demon Dragon form. This is a fairly ceremonial boss fight, and at the conclusion, Zelda will magically turn back into a Hylian (due to her link to the Zonai), reunited with Link at last. So no, she does not stay a dragon forever if you do your job!
