When is the Season of Scares update in Disney Dreamlight Valley?

The Season of Scares update will officially be released on Sept. 23 in DDV. Although the date is confirmed, an exact launch time isn’t. The precise release time is never shared ahead of release, but luckily, DDV has a very reliable schedule for all major updates, which means this one will almost certainly go live at 8am CT.
Although the update goes live across all platforms at the exact same time, the rollout sometimes varies a bit by platform, especially for Nintendo Switch players, as it tends to take a bit to arrive there. Still, the overall launch time is the same for everyone, so we’ve set our countdown to the expected time.
If any unexpected delays occur, we’ll provide an update here; otherwise, you can check back here leading up to the release to see how much longer is left to wait.

When is Oogie Boogie coming to Disney Dreamlight Valley?

Oogie Boogie arrives with the Season of Scares update on Sept. 23 in DDV. However, unlike most valley villagers, the process for unlocking him is time-gated, which means you cannot actually recruit him on this date. Instead, you have to work through a series of missions that unlock weekly for a total of six weeks. Once all of these quests are done, you can then unlock Oogie Boogie as a permanent valley villager.
Season of Scares update features in Disney Dreamlight Valley
The Season of Scares update has new content for just about every area of the game, including new iconic characters to meet, plenty of events to tackle, and so much more. Here’s a complete breakdown of all key features.
- One new character – Oogie Boogie is the only new character featured in this update. He’s a special, seasonal villager who can only be unlocked for a short period of time. As long as you start his first mission before Nov. 4, you can then take as long as you like to work through the quests that come after it to recruit him.
- One new Companion – Although Oogie Boogie is the only villager in this update, we are getting another character in the form of a Critter Companion. Jack Skellington’s beloved ghost dog Zero is unlockable in this update.
- New Star Path event – The Haunting Elegance Star Path arrives in this update, bringing with it plenty of fresh duties to tackle for special seasonal prizes.

- Two new rooms in Olaf’s Grand Exhibition – Olaf’s museum is opening up two more rooms for you to work on. These are the final two areas based on the main valley, and focus on the Plaza and Forgotten Lands biomes.
- New Premium Shop items – The Premium Shop is getting a fresh rotation of optional goodies you can purchase using Moonstones, including quite a lot of items designed to complement the spooky season.
- Rerun events – Some old events are coming back, with a few fresh additions for players who have already worked through them. This includes The Haunted Floating Festival and the Trick-or-Treat events.
- New features and improvements – Some new features and improvements to existing ones are included in this update. This includes the event board, a new, free, permanent Star Path for everyone, the ability to share decoration presets with others, new toggles to clear biomes, and allowing functional building on Floating Islands.
