Day-one buyers of Modern Warfare 2 DLC got a week of LIVE

Folks who bought the Modern Warfare 2 “Stimulus Package” DLC for 360 on the day of release are getting a nice surprise from Microsoft: One free week of Live Gold. According to Dtoider GrumpyTurtle, Big M sent out the following message to those who’ve scored a little extra time to play online:

To thank you for your loyalty to Xbox LIVE and for buying the Modern Warfare 2 Stimulus Package on day 1, we will extend your Gold membership for 7 days of adrenaline-pumping action with your friends on LIVE. Your account will be updated on May 1.

While I certainly appreciate the gesture, it seems mighty strange that such a thing would just come out of the blue with no fanfare. Maybe I’m getting too cynical in my old age, but I have a hard time picturing Microsoft being able to resist the urge to use even this very minor carrot to try and sell people on a $15 piece of DLC.
