Xbox Cloud Gaming trailer not a reveal
The past 48 hours have seen the pace gather on a rumor that CD Projeckt RED’s Cyberpunk 2077 is in line for release on Microsoft’s all-powerful subscription service, Xbox Game Pass. According to the developer, however, this is not the case.
The whispers began on Wednesday of this week, after Microsoft released a new video celebrating Xbox Cloud Gaming services, among the titles featured in the frenetic montage was CDPR’s hi-tech, hi-controversy RPG, as spotted by fans on social media forums such as Reddit. However, speaking to news outlet VGC, CDPR’s Head of Global PR Radek Grabowski swiftly shut down any idea that the neon-stained sidewalks of Night City were joining the Xbox Game Pass service.
It appears far more likely that the inclusion of Cyberpunk 2077 in Microsoft’s new video was more a celebration of Xbox Cloud Gaming’s streaming option, allowing users to enjoy titles without having to wait for them to download, even titles with huge, epic worlds and massive action setpieces, ergo: Cyberpunk 2077. Already available on Xbox One in an improved but still somewhat disappointing form — at least when compared to its PC brethren — the Xbox Series X edition of 2077 is yet to hit the streets, and is now expected to arrive at some point in 2022, alongside its PS5 cousin.
