Crytek’s console titles coming quicker thanks to Free Radical

Crytek’s CEO Cevat Yerli has told the gaming press several times that his studio won’t be creating anymore PC exclusives. The recent acquisition of Free Radical Design (Crytek UK) gave Crytek some solid FPS console cred. According to Yerli, Crytek will take that experience and put it to good use. “Right now we’re looking at 42 people and intend to bring the studio to full production capability in the near future,” he said. “This is something that relates to the project we’ll be kicking off very shortly.”

What is that rapidly approaching project? We can only stab around in the dark and suppose it’s a console port of Crytek’s acclaimed and visually impressive shooter Crysis. Of course, it could be Secret of Monkey Island 2 for all we know at this point.

The good thing is that the wait for this console title will be shorter thanks to Crytek UK. “We always planned to enter the console market and it was part of our strategy even before the acquisition.” Yerli said. “This step will certainly bring us forward a bit faster to achieve our goal to develop high quality games on consoles.”

Because of my love of the Macintosh, I’ve been unable to play any games that Crytek has developed. This needs to be remedied. I have a burning desire, Crytek. Sate it.
