Cris Tales has been locked in as the next Epic Games Store freebie. The timeline-swapping role-playing game will be available for free starting Feb. 24 on the Epic launcher.

Currently the free game is Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons, the one-controller, two-character adventure about a pair of brothers. Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons will be available for free from now until Feb. 24, when Cris Tales takes over.

Developers Dreams Uncorporated and SYCK launched Cris Tales in July 2021. Built as a bit of a love letter to the classic RPGs of yore—Chrono Trigger being an obvious one—it tells a story spanning time. Protagonist Crisbell can move between the past, present, and future. Using this to both solve puzzles and gain the upper hand in battle is a big focus of Cris Tales.

It seemed like a good RPG at the time, one that had a lot of passion even where it fell short of its ambitions. The art style alone is an obvious draw, but the time mechanics also seem interesting. The cast of characters, from Crisbell to her helper frog pal and more, also seems pretty endearing. And the studio itself has a pretty neat story, drawing inspiration from their own Colombian heritage.

For the low, low price of free, it might be worth checking out if you’re hankering for a new RPG to play. The Epic Games Store will have Cris Tales available, free to download, from Feb. 24 through Mar. 3.
