Control Ultimate Edition is available for AT&T users to stream

AT&T customers can stream it right to their phone or computer

As cloud gaming continues to build out, one service provider is now bundling streaming games in for its customers. AT&T announced today that Control Ultimate Edition is free to stream in its entirety to a phone, tablet, or computer for AT&T customers.

According to AT&T’s site, you just need a postpaid mobility plan. Then you can head to its Play Now site using a mobile device or computer. Enter your phone number and zip code for your account, and bam, Control Ultimate Edition.

It’s available for a limited time, and powered by Google’s Immersive Stream for Games. That program is a spin-off of Stadia, where companies can license Google’s Stadia streaming tech for their own streaming purposes.

This isn’t the only game available, either. Batman: Arkham Knight is also on the program, as it launched last fall.

Cloudy future

Cloud gaming has been an interesting technology to watch develop over the years. Stadia itself went through some woes, shuttering its internal studios and looking to expand in other ways.

A report in February indicated Google might be pivoting and adapting the technology, bringing the tech to services looking for streaming options. It certainly seems like this Control offer falls under that.

Other companies have tried out their cloud tech, too. Microsoft’s Xbox Cloud Gaming has made Xbox One and Series X|S games open for streaming through the cloud.

For AT&T, it’s a very specific subset of users able to take advantage of this. But it is interesting, as a microcosm of where these options could go: mobile. Cloud options already feel largely targeted towards phones, as they make for capable and widely available streaming platforms. With a pack-in like Control Ultimate Edition, it’s certainly a step to watch for future streaming developments.
