It’s been a long time coming, but Call of Duty gamers sick of being killed by Nicki Minaj or Seth Rogen finally have an answer to their cries.
Starting in season one of Modern Warfare 4, Warzone will add an operator skin toggle that will only display MW4 operators in-game. No more ridiculous collab skins or getting absolutely dunked on by a Ninja Turtle…but only in Warzone, not MW4 multiplayer or any of the other base experiences just yet.
“Over the last few years, Call of Duty: Warzone has brought together operators, weapons, and experiences from across recent Call of Duty titles in one shared experience,” Activision explained. “We know some players enjoy that variety, while others would prefer Call of Duty: Warzone feel more aligned with the world of the latest release, including the upcoming MW4. With the launch of the next chapter of Call of Duty: Warzone, we aim to support both player preferences.”
There are many complaints about CoD over the past few years, but the franchise straying away from its identity with wild collab skins has been a big one (as part of my job, I’m forced to read it all). So, this is a welcome change, because if you like the silly skins, then you don’t have to do anything at all as the toggle will be off my default.
Activision also confirmed that all weapons from Modern Warfare 2 (2022) through Black Ops 7 (2025) “will continue to be accessible through the Legacy tab in the Loadout menu of Call of Duty: Warzone.”

“Our goal for this chapter of Call of Duty: Warzone is for the weapon meta to feel distinctly rooted in Modern Warfare 4, while preserving access to nostalgic choices that players know and love,” Activision said. “Raven Software will continue to deliver on its commitment to balancing weapons on a biweekly basis, keeping the MW4 weapon lineup fluid and interesting throughout each season.”
It feels pretty clear to me that Activision is feeling a good amount of heat to deliver a game that its core fans want this year, given all of the competition and negative reception of the beta. This is a good change, for sure, for when MW4 season one goes live some time later this year after its Oct. 23 launch.
