Chart breaks down game genres as individual planets

Recommended Videos

Back in October, we posted a super tall infographic that chronicled the history of console gaming (with some corners cut here and there). The cats responsible for that monster (Hotel Club) have concocted another massive chart, this one breaking down the various gaming genres into “worlds.” Like, literal worlds. Each genre is its own galaxy of planets.

Some of the breakdowns focus on the mechanical attributes of a genre, such as the Platform and Sports worlds, whereas others focus on thematic attributes, like the Crime and Movie worlds. Each planet is represented by a few stand-out titles, such as Metal Gear Solid (War) and Ghost’n Goblins (Horror), which are then tagged with trivia like sales data and various development info.

Unfortunately, it’s once again not all peaches and cream. There are some glaring errors (Star Fox on NES? A Link to the Past is an RPG?), and there will be the usual criticisms of “why isn’t X game on here?” Still, it’s fun for a casual glance. Give it a perusal!
