CES 2010: If you buy Wii weights, you’re the dumbell

Recommended Videos

Anybody who knows me is aware of my love for plastic junk, especially if its designed to accomodate a Wii remote. Nothing thrills me more than seeing twelve inch golf clubs that weigh an ounce and have a hole in the grip. So, you can imagine that CES is a playground for me.

Something I was surprised to have never seen before are these Wii Dumbells from Cyphergroups. Weighing just under kilogram, they’re sold as a pair so you can use both a Wii remote and nunchuk. I’m not sure if you could really call them “free weights” if there’s a cord connecting them, but I doubt anybody who would use the term “free weights” is going to fall into their target demographic of people who want to pretend they’re into fitness through fads.

One cool thing about them is that sandbags are used to give the necessary weight that thin plastic just can’t supply. This makes them a little adjustable, and there’s enough space in the weights to double them up to a hefty two kilograms.

Useless? You bet it is. Thing is, this actually isn’t the only pair I’ve seen at the show. These are just the best ones. Next they’re going to show me a Wii billiard cue, I just know it.
