As you may have noticed from the Community Blogs and Forums, today is Destructoid’s fourth birthday. It’s hard to believe we’ve been around for four years already and it feels like time has just flown by.
I remember when GorillaMask and DoubleViking, two comedy portals I used to frequent a lot back in 2006, linked to Destructoid the day it was born. I was hooked the second I visited, largely in part thanks to Niero’s writing style. It was raw and real — something I never felt when visiting other gaming sites — and I kept coming back for more because of it.
I was a lurker for the first couple of months of hanging out around Destructoid. Then one day I felt inspired and did two things: Signed up for the forums and pestered Niero with videogame related finds from around the Internet (I was the original Joe Burling.) After a couple of weeks of doing this, Niero told me to stop and start writing for him instead. Three years later, I’m now the Community Manager to this site that has legitimately changed many people’s lives, mine included.
So that’s one of my favorite stories related to Destructoid, in a nutshell. What about you? We have a thread going on over in the Forums where we want you to tell us your favorite Destructoid memories. The Community Blogs are also blowing up with people sending their happy birthday wishes to Destructoid and Niero. Or just feel free to leave a comment here with your favorite memory and/or birthday wishes.
Happy birthday Niero and Destructoid!
