Cave Story DS demo hits; the shadows are NOT people!

Apparently I’m the only person on the planet who has never played Cave Story. In fact, up until a month ago I thought it was based on Plato’s Allegory of the Cave, but apparently that was lending the title too much credit. Instead of illustrating the innate downfalls inherent in man’s perception-is-reality mindset, Cave Story is a story about a cave. Specifically, the story of some dude who awakens within a cave, meets some rabbits, fights some monsters and never comes to the realization he’s stuck within a prototypical Japanese RPG. The confines of one’s own worldview are nefarious indeed.

Existentialism aside, Cave Story is coming to your Nintendo DS! Captain Linde told you earlier this week about the title’s release on the PSP (via homebrew), and with it now also appearing on the DS, it’s well on its way to becoming as ubiquitous as Pokémon.  At this rate, we assume it’s only a matter of a few weeks before someone announces Cave Story: Brown Rock and Cave Story: Yellow Fungus, a linkable duo of titles that tell the story of a Japanese teenager trapped inside of a computer program that simulates being trapped inside of a cave. Also, he has to “catch ’em all”. What exactly “’em” refers to is unclear at the moment, but the smart money is on ferocious bats.
