Capcom details Street Fighter V beta

No local versus, only testing online

The first Street Fighter V beta is coming exclusively to PlayStation 4 on July 23.

The beta will run for five days, allowing participants to get their hands on six playable characters.

Four fighters (Ryu, Chun-Li, Charlie Nash, and M. Bison) will be available from the get-go. The other two (Cammy and Birdie) will then join the roster on July 25. Capcom asserts the staggered release is designed to test out its new content delivery system.

The publisher also notes the beta will only feature online versus, so you won’t be able to invite your buddies over to play, unless you’re keen on taking turns. Capcom says the beta lacks a local versus mode because its “primary purpose” is to test online functionality.

The beta’s other purpose (at least in the Americas) is to drum up pre-orders, as the only way for folks in the New World to guarantee entry is to plop down some cash at a select retailer.

Meanwhile across Europe, Africa, the Middle East, and Oceania, things are being handled a bit differently. Users there get to sign-up via PlayStation Network and just hope they get in.

Japan and Asia has a similar ticket system, though it’s exclusive to PlayStation Plus members.

Capcom also conveyed that while it’s evaluating PlayStation 3 joystick and controller support for the final product, they will not be compatible with the beta.

A separate PC beta will take place sometime this autumn.
