‘Blizzard’s news tightens titan’s noose’ – Max Scoville
Blizzard’s next massively multiplayer game, Titan, was never announced, but the company has spoken about the project off and on these past several years. Here’s another update: the game has been canceled — “it didn’t come together,” CEO Mike Morhaime tells Polygon.
“We didn’t find the fun,” he explained. “We didn’t find the passion. We talked about how we put it through a reevaluation period, and actually, what we reevaluated is whether that’s the game we really wanted to be making. The answer is no.”
Blizzard would sooner cancel a game that’s been in production for seven years than risk damaging its relationship with fans, senior VP of story and franchise development Chris Metzen said.
“We took a step back and realized that it had some cool hooks. It definitely had some merit as a big, broad idea, but it didn’t come together. It did not distill … For all our good intentions and our experience and the pure craftsmanship that we brought together, we had to make that call.”
Blizzard will continue to support World of Warcraft but in terms of creating a new game in that space, “that’s not where we want to be spending our time [right now],” Morhaime said.
