Stemming from a small comment in a GameStop article, reports have been spreading that Mass Effect and Dragon Age developer BioWare is assisting Maxis in the development of Darkspore. As we’ve discovered, that’s not entirely accurate. It’s just that a member of the BioWare team, writer Malcolm Azania, is the lead writer on the fiction for Maxis’ upcoming action role-playing game.

Azania had previously contributed to writing for Mass Effect 2, the downloadable Kasumi mission, as well as BioWare’s Facebook game, Gift of the Yeti. The writer also penned a number of novels under the name Minister Faust, winning awards for the Del Rey/Ballantine-published From the Notebooks of Doctor Brain and The Coyote Kings of the Space-Age Bachelor Pad.

Darkspore is scheduled for a 2011 release; check out our first-look preview from earlier this month.
