Roblox, a series of games under the guise of another game that’s actually just a hub or aggregator, has no shortage of spooky, scary games to enjoy. I should preface this with the disclaimer that I’m not an avid Roblox player. I’ll play every now and then, but tycoon simulators are more my jam. So, I turned to the resident Roblox expert in our house, my 10-year-old son, who has been playing all manner of Roblox games for years. “Sometimes there are monsters in the rooms and you can’t run away or you lose your stuff.”

“You’re on a school trip and the bus stops and you have to find your friends in an abandoned hospital.”
Why is it scary?
“There are ghosts and it’s dark. There are some jump scares and you can get lost easily.”

“Mostly, the Backrooms and surviving as long as you can. There is no escape and entities mimic the players.”
Why is it scary?
“There are creatures that can mimic the player as well as creatures that are blind and on four legs. It’s endless, so endless amounts of horror. It’s hard to survive.”

“It’s basically Phasmophobia on Roblox.”
Why is it scary?
“There are ghosts that make a lot of sounds and the lights go out. The ghosts will hunt and can kill you.”

What is the game about?
“Investigating buildings and hauntings of ghosts and you have to figure out clues.”
Why is it scary?
“There’s ghost hunting. The ghost can hunt and the ghost will haunt a certain room. You have to figure out clues about the house and you have to survive doing your job. There are certain maps that are in the game that have events that can happen if you touch something.”

What is the game about?
“It has a lot of chapters that are about memories and stuff.”
Why is it scary?
“There’s a lot of different creatures. I don’t really know how to explain the creatures. I’d say that you have to play it for yourself.”
Residence Massacre
What is the game about?
“It’s a multiplayer game where you have to survive ‘Larry,’ a creature that has arms that are like giant blood spikes. You have to do tasks around the house, like keeping the generator pumping air in the house. You have to keep the power up. It’s basically, just like, a big game of Hide and Seek around the house. But if he finds you, you die. When he’s entering the house through the windows, you turn the lights on to scare him away. And you barricade the house and set up cameras outside.”
Why is it scary?
“It can be single-player or multiplayer. You don’t know what’s behind every corner. You have to prepare for him before he comes. He can break the barricades and come inside the house. He can break the power box and you have to go outside and fix it.”
The Intruder
What is the game about?
“Surviving a shapeshifter for a night.”
Why is it scary?
“There are different levels you have to complete to move on and you have to check the cameras. They can be, like, he comes into the room or you see him and you have to run from him. At the mall, after you survive the night, you’re met with a police officer and you explain the shapeshifter to him, and the police officer said that he could mimic the voices of other people when he killed them. He mimicked a boy’s voice and the police department thought it was a prank call.”
The Cabin [HORROR]
What is the game about?
“Your grandfather died in his old wooden cabin and you decide to investigate why he died. You see the supernatural events of how your grandfather died. You get to see the dark lore of what happened to him.”
Why is it scary?
“There are creatures that try to break into the house and you have to hide from them.”

What is the game about?
“A horror game where you have to go through 100 doors with creatures chasing you and trying to kill you.”
Why is it scary?
“It’s very hard. You have to survive several entities that chase you down through 100 doors. There are entities that can hear and you have to be quiet while trying to survive them. There are other entities that will chase you down through doors.”
