Active Matter‘s full release is now available on PCs worldwide, and you have a fair number of settings to tweak. While the game was available in early access before, the full version has also been added to Steam.
Let’s find out how to get the best possible performance on your device.
Best Active Matter graphics settings
Before I dive into the settings, here’s a summary of my specifications.
- AMD Radeon 9060XT 16 GB
- AMD Ryzen 7 5700X
- 32 GB of DDR4 RAM
My specifications are closer to the recommended specs, but I have focused on settings that would suit lower-end machines. Since the core gameplay revolves around shooting enemies, the emphasis should be on performance.
- Quality: Custom
- Resolution: Use the native resolution of your monitor.
- Mode: Fullscreen
- NVIDIA Reflex Low Latency: Boost
- VSync: Turn this on if you’re getting lag. Doing so will automatically disable Reflex Low Latency.
- FPS Limit: 60 FPS seems like a sweet spot that doesn’t put too much stress on your system. However, turn this up and test for yourself.
- Anti-Aliasing mode: I have kept this turned off. Turn this on if you’re encountering lag.
- Super Resolution: Performance
- Shadow Quality: Low
- Shadows Form Effects: Off
- Global Illumination Quality: Low
- Atmospheric Scattering Quality: Low
- Ambient Occlusion Quality: Low
- Reflection Quality: Low
- High Quality Indoor Reflections: Off
- Improved Subsurface Scattering: Off
- Texture Quality: Medium
- Anisotropy: 4X
- Clouds Quality: Default
- Fog Quality: Close
- Water Quality: Low
- Water Ripples Quality: Low
- Environment Detail Quality: Low
- Terrain Tessellation Quality: Low
- Object Tessellation: Off
- Resolution of Visual Effects: Low
- Realistic Magnification in Scopes: Off
- Screen-Space Weather Effects: Off
- Lens Flare: Off
- Chromatic Aberration: Off
- Film Grain: Off
- Motion Blur: 0
So far, the gameplay feels really smooth, but Active Matter is an online game. If your internet is choppy, you’ll still encounter lag, so it’s something to keep in mind.
