Believe it! Ubisoft confirms new Naruto game in development

It looks like the rumor we had previously reported was right on the money: Ubisoft has formally announced that Naruto: The Broken Bond is in development for the Xbox 360. Serving as the sequel to Naruto: Rise of a Ninja, The Broken Bond will pick up where the previous game left off (episode 81) and focus on Naruto, Neji, Kiba, Shikamaru, and Choji’s attempts to bring a despondent Sasuke back to the Hidden Leaf Village.

Aside from boasting about the games’ online multiplayer (they’re the only ones with an online tournament mode) and mentioning that The Broken Bond would come out “Holiday 2008” (the rumor had the release date set on November 14) Ubisoft wasn’t very forthcoming about any new details.

What I’m curious about, though, is how they’ll handle the next inevitable sequel. Will Ubisoft try to make a game covering the huge glut of filler episodes after episode 135 (please don’t!) or will they just skip ahead to the beginning of Naruto Shippuuden?
