Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game has over 10 different characters on offer at launch, and you can pick between them to fight your opponents. All the fighters feel quite well-balanced in this game, but some of them seem to be better. They are either more powerful in terms of their abilities and combos, or they are easy to master.

In this guide, I will go through which characters are great in the current meta and which ones are rather difficult and that you should avoid.

Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game

To separate the characters, I have used three different tiers:

  • S-tier choices are extremely overpowered and strong. They will also feel effortless to use.
  • A-tier choices are decent options if you want to check some alternatives to S-tier choices.
  • B-tier options will require a lot of time and energy for you to master and bypass their respective weaknesses.

S-tier

  • Azula: Azula is so strong in the current meta that I could almost put her in a separate tier alone. Her traps are incredible, and she has plenty of DPS. The combos are amusing, to say the least. If you know how to work with her, you can zone the opponent into a corner and keep them pinned for as long as you want. I don’t think there is any other character in the game that’s as strong as her.
  • Korra: with Korra, your game is pretty simple. You have numerous combos that can dish out decent damage. Most of those combos have great follow-ups that allow you to keep up the momentum. The idea is to pin the opponent in one corner and land your barrage of combos and follow-ups.
  • Toph: Toph is slightly different from the other names here because she is a pure aggro choice. Since she can create armor, you can dash in recklessly to force the opponent into doing something they might not want.
  • Aang/Avatar Aang: I feel that Aang is a character best suited for experienced hands. If you don’t know how to move during a fight, Aang can be considered a B-tier. His movement kit does offer you plenty of chances to set up your opponent and trap them in a corner from where they can’t come out.

A-tier

  • Katara: Katara has one of the best offensive combos in the form of Water Hill stance and Flow. You will have to master movement patterns to get the best out of her. This will take some time, especially if you are new to fighting games.
  • Zaheer: Zaheer is really fun and easy to use. He can summon different allies to aid him in his fight. While he is not extremely overpowered by any means, he offers a lot of room for beginners to learn.
  • Fire Lord Ozai: Ozai is good at everything without being exceptional at something specific. He is fast, he has decent reach, and his kit feels entertaining to use. If you manage to land his throws accurately, you will get a lot of damage out of them, but his key strength is to get close and grapple the opponents into corners.
  • Nightmare Korra: compared to Korra, I believe the Nightmare version has weaker movement that really creates problems in higher elo.

B-tier

  • Kyoshi: Kyoshi has one of the best specials in the game, but she is extremely slow. When you are playing at a higher Elo, you will want to grab characters that have good mobility and allow you to do unexpected things on the battlefield.
  • Zuko: Zuko’s base damage lets him down completely, despite having a great kit. His speed is limited, his DPS is low, and it’s very difficult to work with him against stronger opponents.
  • Sokka: Despite what the community thinks, I simply can’t understand why Sokka should be top tier. His mobility feels very off, and the boomerang is somehow confusing to use. Maybe spending more time with him will change my judgment, but for now, he stays in the B tier.
