Tensei V breakdown

Atlus just put out a quick Shin Megami Tensei V breakdown video

Here’s what you’re getting into

I’ll preface this story with something I typically do for a lot of narrative-based trailers: if you want to go into Shin Megami Tensei V completely blind, you can avoid this one. I mean, that’s probably a given! But with that said, this Shin Megami Tensei V breakdown clip is just three minutes, so it’s not spoiling a lot outside of the initial moments.

If you are on the fence, you might want to check it out to get a better idea of what’s happening with this new entry. Titled “World in Ruins,” the video opens up with story, then immediately shifts into the setup, bringing back that familiar demon-infused style and combat system. Very swiftly it touches on multiple elements of the game, including demon negotiations (that let you recruit new members), the press turn battle system (which gives you more actions for striking weaknesses), and the magatsuhi skill bar (that’s kind of like a limit break, allowing you to unleash strong abilities).

Then you have the menu-based stuff like demon fusion (combine two party members into something potentially stronger), essence inheritance (pass on abilities to other characters), and glory (a skills/perk upgrade system of sorts). Yep, it’s a Shin Megami Tensei joint alright!

If you’re on the fence after this, you still have a few weeks to decide before jumping in on the November 12 worldwide launch. Or you can wait after that! This series isn’t going anywhere for a while, and neither is the Switch.
