The post-apocalyptic game featuring powerful robot enemies known as ARC will be developed in tandem by Chernin, a production company known for a wide array of projects in both TV (New Girl, See, Fear Street) and film (Planet of the Apes reboot trilogy, Backrooms, The Greatest Showman, and more).

“Nexon’s agreement with Chernin Entertainment is the next big step in growing ARC Raiders and The Finals into deeply integrated transmedia experiences that reward the passion of our global player community,” Nexon executive chairman and Embark Studios founder and CEO Patrick Söderlund said. “Throughout the process, the creative teams at Embark Studios will work closely with Chernin to ensure the creativity that defines both of these properties extends into all-new formats.”

These games coming to a new medium are part of a big trend in recent years as Hollywood plumbs the depths of video game storylines for the next big hits. TV shows like The Last of Us, Arcane, and Fallout, and movie franchises like Sonic the Hedgehog, Super Mario, and more have given credence to the industry. Upcoming projects like Prime Video’s God of War series and Sony Pictures’ The Legend of Zelda will only grow the trend.

“ARC Raiders and The Finals are exactly the kind of opportunities we’ve been building towards at Chernin Entertainment: ambitious global IP with the potential to become major franchises across film and television,” said David Ready, president of film at Chernin Entertainment. “Nexon and Embark have created visually stunning, atmospheric worlds that contain countless stories to tell. We’re honored they’ve trusted us to unite our film and television teams to tell those stories.”
