Season 20, titled Breakout, began on February 13, 2024, and has unfortunately become marred by issues that will likely mean some players won’t look back on it too fondly. This was the season where the Apex Legends Global Series tournament suffered a live hacking incident, with competitors unwillingly receiving cheats mid-match, and an April update saw many players losing all their progress, though that has fortunately since been fixed. With players, and maybe even the team at Respawn, ready to put this season behind them, here’s everything we know about Apex Legends Season 21.

When does Apex Legends Season 21 release?

While Respawn hasn’t provided a start date, the in-game battle pass shows Apex Legends Season 20 will end on Monday, May 6. So, Season 21, titled Upheaveal, should kick off on the same day. If prior seasons are anything to go by, the update will go live at 10am PT / 1pm ET / 6pm BST, though it is always possible Respawn will need to delay the update for one reason or another.

Is there a trailer for Apex Legends Season 21?

At the time of writing, Respawn has released an animated trailer introducing Apex Legends‘ newest playable character, Alter. While it depicts Alter going on a killing spree as she rattles off multiple conflicting backstories, establishing her manic personality and ability to travel between different dimensions, it doesn’t include any gameplay. However, Respawn has confirmed a gameplay trailer will arrive on Friday, May 3.

What is included in Apex Legends Season 21?

Aside from the aforementioned new Legend, Apex Legends Season 21 will be reintroducing Solos mode, which was previously only available for two weeks back in August 2019. At the time of writing, Respawn hasn’t said anything else about it, but a popular leak has claimed Solos will be made a permanent addition to Apex Legends, alongside a new Quads mode. While these are unconfirmed for the time being, such modes could help attract new players to the game.

Respawn has also teased that a “lunar nightmare reshapes the battlefield” in Season 21, which could tie in with the strange portal that’s currently hanging in the sky above the Storm Point map. Since it seems the Olympus map can be seen in the portal, this could be a hint that the map will see some changes in Season 21; something Alter’s trailer also teases with a shot of city buildings falling from a portal.
