All gemstone bonuses in the Resident Evil 4 remake

There’s a formula now!

Recommended Videos

In the original Resident Evil 4, you were able to inlay gems to get a higher yield of cash when selling items. Now there’s a whole formula involved with that! Here’s how to get the most bang for your buck when it comes to gemstones and rare treasures.

Here’s every gemstone bonus combination in the Resident Evil 4 remake

Putting gems in items can take a regular treasure that sells for only a few thousand Pesetas go for tens of thousands in cash when sold to The Merchant. Some gemstone bonuses cannot be achieved with certain items. Take the Elegant Mask for example: there’s three round holes that can be filled. The highest possible yield would be three of the same gemstone (trio) for a x1.4 return.

Gemstone combinations vary depending on the item (again, some can only hold as little as three), but as a general rule, the highest possible yields for each type are as follows:

  • Three Gemstones: Trio (x1.4)
  • Four Gemstones: Quartet (x1.7)
  • Five Gemstones: Five Colors (x2.0)

Can you remove gemstones without a penalty?

Yes! Just highlight the treasure in your inventory and hit “remove gemstones.”

Unlike how jewelcrafting or socketing goes in some popular MMOs, you won’t lose the gemstone.

Should you save up for the best bonus?

Well, it depends on how you’re doing at that current point in time. If you’re really struggling and feel like your weapons aren’t up to snuff, it’s not going to really hurt you if you sell an inlay treasure early without getting the best possible combination.

But if everything is going well/average, it’s best (just like the original) to save up your gemstones and go for the bigger yield. Thankfully, the remake actually tells you how to do just that.

How do you get gemstones in the Resident Evil 4 remake?

In addition to finding them in treasure chests throughout the game world, you can also nab some through these activities:

  • Buying them directly from The Merchant for Spinels (limited stock)
  • Looting them from elite enemies, like the chainsaw guy

If you’re looking for big payouts, you’ll want to take out elites as often as possible. That way you can diversify your gem collection and go for the biggest bonuses.
