Updated on December 9, 2025: I will be updating this guide for ending #3 coming out on December 14, 2025.
This game takes about 30-60 minutes to complete but the fun part is which Dig to Escape ending you’re going for and how fast you are. Currently, there are two possible endings and I will give you a step-by-step guide on both. Here’s my All Dig to Escape endings guide.

Dig to Escape Mineshaft Ending Guide
The default ending in Dig to Escape is the Mineshaft ending where you dig to the bottom of the prison and trigger a running event to finish the game. To do this, you’ll need to keep digging and then returning to the surface to sell items and buy increasingly better digging tools for the different layers (see in the picture above). You’ll also need to keep buying energy from the trade NPCs and you can also get free energy from the chef NPC at lunch time each day. Here are some tips for this ending:
- The guard doesn’t end your run unless he catches you so you can interact with NPCs outside your cell as long as you return behind a cell door or vent before the guard reaches you.
- You can leave any door, vent or carpet open without consequences as long as you close your cell door at night so that the guard doesn’t accidentally aggro to you when you emerge to the surface with F.
- Dig straight down and return with F to sell items (You’ll get plenty of items by digging straight down and it’s the best way to conserve energy).
- Always save money for the next digging tool upgrade as shown in the picture above (It’s how you progress and after you buy a tool for the next layer you can stock up on Energy/Storage/Dynamite).
- Buy Food in stacks of 2 to 4 since it’s cheap (Only buy syringes when you have the tool for the next layer and you want to spend 8+ seconds digging to make use of the max energy buff).
- You can use the vent outside of your cell to reach all the trade NPCs and the Sell NPC at night.
- You technically never need to use Dynamites, however, they can dig fast through any layer and you don’t get damaged by them/alert the guard so save a few for the last 2 layers if you have extra toilet paper.
- Don’t waste money on the Illegal Card since that’s for the Janitor ending (The vent in your cell and the Janitor/Bathroom/Security room are also for the Janitor ending so ignore them).
- The Mineshaft ending chase sequence triggers as soon as you drop down to the last level and it’s really easy to complete by just moving straight ahead (there’s no sprint), not looking back and avoiding obstacles until you reach the ladder (keep moving forward to climb the ladder).
Dig to Escape Janitor Ending Guide
The Dig to Escape Janitor ending guide is both simpler and a bit trickier at the end since it’s about buying the Illegal Card and escaping through the Janitor room. Here’s a step-by-step guide:
- All you have to do to trigger this ending is farm 200 Toilet Paper and buy the Illegal Card.
- Use the tips from the first ending to farm 200 Toilet Paper.
- You can stick to farming the first 3 or 4 layers without having to descend down deeper and buying late-game digging tools (Free Energy from the chef at Lunchtime and buying Energy are your best bets).
- Once you have 200 Toilet Paper check if any of the four Trade NPCs offer the Illegal Card and buy it (If not, just wait for the next day for the purchasable items to refresh).
- Once you have the Illegal Card, make sure it’s daytime, ideally before lunchtime and go to the Security room after the cafeteria to unlock the door (You can use the vent inside of your cell to move to the janitor and security rooms).
- The guard inside will be sleeping so just grab the ladder to the left and bring it to the Janitor room.
- Place it in the Janitor room and escape through the vent above.
- This triggers a sequence where you have to hide from the guard in an office while collecting batteries.
- Collect all batteries without the guard spotting you and place them in the fusebox.
- There are various rooms around the office which you can enter to both find batteries and hide from the guard.
- Crouch behind tables to prevent you from being spotted.
- Once you have all the batteries, place them in the fusebox and a door will open that you can escape to giving you the Janitor ending.
Best Classes in Dig to Escape
The best class in Dig to Escape depends on which ending you’re going for. You’ll get Diamonds from runs depending on your progress which you can then use to buy these classes. Here are the best classes for each Ending:
- Best for Mineshaft Ending: Bargainer is the best one so that you can both get digging upgrades and energy for cheaper.
- Mineshaft Second-Best: Energizer will keep you digging longer and Heavy Lifter means you can carry more items to sell. That said if you’re playing with friends ignore Heavy Lifter and go for Hyperactive or Energizer since everybody will be picking up items anyway.
- Best for Janitor Ending: Speedster is the best one so that you can run move faster in the last segment with the batteries and guard (See above).
- Janitor Second-Best: Otherwise, go for any of the Mineshaft classes. Bargainer means you can buy the card earlier and Energizer/Hyperactive means you can farm it earlier.
