Pass the Fear has different difficulty tiers to apply to your runs, and it goes well beyond base damage alone. The difficulty tier will determine the type of loot you obtain, the Battle Scars you get, and the kind of enemies you’ll run into.
This guide will help you with all the difficulty tiers so that you can make the right choice before you start your next run.
All difficulty tiers in Pass the Fear
The table below has a list of all available difficulty tiers, along with the respective boons and curses. As you raise the difficulty tier, both boons and curses will strengthen. The only exception to this is tier two or Common, which doesn’t have any boon or curse.
| Tier | Boon | Curse |
|---|---|---|
| Journey | Take 50% less damage | 50% less Soul Gems gained and squad EXP. |
| Common | N/A | N/A |
| Hard | Greater chance to obtain higher-quality items | Reveal a Chaos battle Scar before departing. Enemies from the next chapter will appear. |
| Nightmare | Further increased chance of obtaining higher-quality items | Reveal two Chaos Battle Scars before departure. Enemies from the next two chapters will appear. |
| Hell | Further increased chance for obtaining higher-quality loot | Reveal three Chaos Battle Scars before departure. |
| Reality | Highest chance of obtaining higher-quality loot | Reveal three Chaos Battle Scars before departure. Each subsequent chapter will reveal a Chaos Battle Scar. Enemies from the next four chapters will appear. |
At first, you’ll only have the Journey tier available on your run. You’ll need to clear at least two bosses to unlock the next difficulty tiers.
The chances of your success will also depend on the hunter you pick. While all hunters have their respective strengths and weaknesses, you can use this tier list to guide your choice.
