Doctor: Games make you violent, frightened and painless

Recommended Videos

According to family therapist Dr. Linda Mintle, videogames will make you terrified of the world, deaden your sensitivity to pain, fail at school, become a delinquent, and learn how to harm people in real life. Considering she writes for a site that asks “Are tattoos okay for Christians,” it’s safe to say this is a woman whose finger is really on the pulse of modern issues!

Providing no evidence to substantiate her claims, Mintle has stated as fact that videogames are more than mere entertainment, allowing children to practice violence, altering their personality, and teaching them to fear a world that they see as hostile. She implies that keeping a child completely secluded from the concept of violence is a sign of good parenting (spoiler: it isn’t) and has basically encouraged her readers to see games as dangerous, mind-altering entities.

It’s kind of amusing that she claims games are making people fearful and hostile. The only person I see being lashing out at frightening things is Ms. Mintle herself. Let us all attack what we do not understand with baseless claims. Maybe we’ll get to be doctors too!

I recommend you read the article, as it’s jaw-dropping in its ignorance. Also, if you want a really good laugh, read the comment that follows it, in which a parent prayed very hard until her son stopped playing Xbox Live. It’s comedy gold.
