Super Metroid would’ve sounded rad as a Genesis title

Recommended Videos

Now that I think about it, I’ve seen the occassional video here and there, but I had no idea making songs sound Genesis-y was a full-blown trend. It most certainly is, and you wouldn’t believe how exceptional many of the reworked tunes sound.

For the sake of convenience, we might as well start with Geckoyamori’s take on the Super Metroid soundtrack. Hardcore Gaming 101 recently picked up on a number of his songs, which can be found on YouTube. The attached video seemed like the best example to me, so give it a listen.

The effect isn’t quite so in your face like it is for a lot of these tributes, which tend to overdose on the funkyness of the Genesis. We get it, you dig those noises; there’s only enough room in this world for one Sonic Spinball, though.
