Crysis 2 will be a ‘Halo Killer’ according to EA

Didn’t the term “Halo Killer” stop being cool five years ago? Apparently not, with Electronic Arts’ Frank Gibeau invoking the perpetually false term while bigging up Crytek’s big shooter sequel, Crysis 2. In fact, Gibeau quite frankly states that the team is actively trying to craft one of these so-called killers.

“…We were trying to craft a Halo Killer, you know a product that would squarely go after what Bungie built with our partners at Crytek,” he explains. “So the Crysis 2 product is spectacular, very high-end, and is going to be a multi-year franchise.”

I hate it when people say “Halo Killer” because it evokes the image of a game that is not trying to succeed on its own merits, but rather is actively attempting to emulate an already successful title. Whether that’s true of Crysis 2 or not, EA has now projected the image of a game that’s simply copying Halo in a cynical bid to copy Halo‘s sales. I want to know that a developer’s concentrating on its own game, not spending its time hungrily watching other peoples’ games.
