EA: Battlefield will beat Call of Duty commercially

Anybody who believes they can defeat Call of Duty could be certified insane at this point, but that’s not stopping Electronic Arts. According to senior vice president Jens Uwe, Battlefield‘s ultimate victory over Activision’s killer franchise is a matter of “if” and not “when.”

“Certainly. The only question is when that day will be,” he said when asked. “And for me, the sooner the better.

“With Battlefield 3 we have a superior games engine and a top notch product. We are convinced that we will, in fact, have a better product than our key competitor in the space. We think this is the perfect year to gain back market share.”

It seems that every new shooter EA publishes has been pushed to try and both ape and beat Call of Duty. So far it’s not succeeded, and it’s starting to look really quite desperate. I wish EA would let these games stand out on their own, rather than insisting on bringing COD into the mix. It’s getting impossible to think about Battlefield 3 without thinking of Modern Warfare 3, and that kind of reverse-advertising doesn’t work in EA’s favor.
