Landlord’s Super finishes Early Access construction May 25

Laying a solid foundation

MinskWorks has announced that their poverty-stricken construction game, Landlord’s Super, will be seeing its full release on May 25. They initially released the early version in April of 2020.

Landlord’s Super is a sandbox game set against the backdrop of ‘80s Brittain. It’s a time of sweeping unemployment. You play as someone who, unable to find a job, decides to construct a house and rent it out. With very little money and few opportunities, you need to beg, borrow, and steal your supplies to create a worthwhile hovel.

It’s a construction simulator first. You mix your cements and mortars, and build the home brick-by-brick. You’re given a lot of freedom in how you do this, but the amount of work required to complete a home is intense.

Underlying this is a representation of the time period. While building your home, you have to maintain yourself by eating, drinking, and showering. This also means you may be spending time at the local pub. To make money, you can do odd jobs around town, or simply wash dishes for a small stipend. It’s drudgery, but it’s fun drudgery.

I’ve played quite a bit of Landlord’s Super in Early Access. It’s an interesting period piece that unapologetically adheres to the struggles of the time it represents. I have my complaints about the game, but I’m looking forward to seeing how it has all come together.

Landlord’s Super is currently available on Steam Early Access. The full version will be released on May 25, 2023.
