Teen banned from Halo 3, shoots parents in retribution

Usually these “kid acts like a brat over videogames” stories are stupid, but this one is simply disturbing. 17-year-old Daniel Petric is on trial for the murder of his mother and attempted murder of his father, where it is alleged he shot them both in the head because they wouldn’t let him play Halo 3.

Mark and Susan Petric would not let their then-16-year-old-son buy Halo 3, something he went and did anyway, before getting caught. The game was confiscated and locked away with a 9mm handgun. On October 20th, 2007, Daniel entered his parents’ bedroom and said to them: “Would you guys close your eyes? I have a surprise for you.”

Daniel shot his mother in the head, killing her instantly. The father was also shot, but survived thanks to his daughter and her husband arriving with plans to watch a Cleveland Indians game.

“Dad, I’m so sorry for what I did to Mom, to you and to the family,” Daniel has been quoted as saying to Mark. “I’m so glad you are alive.”

To which the father responded: “You’re my son. You’re my boy.”

Daniel’s lawyers are attempting to explain his violent attack on a snowboarding accident, suggesting that the stress and the inability to do anything other than watch TV and play videogames led to the murder.

Just an incredibly twisted story altogether.
