Report: Nintendo to boost Switch production in 2023

Publisher believes demand still high for veteran hardware

While rumors of a successor to the smash-selling platform, Nintendo Switch, simply refuse to die, it seems that Nintendo itself still has plenty of faith in the now six-year-old hybrid platform. In fact, according to a report by Bloomberg, the publisher is ramping up production of Switch units for 2023.

According to Bloomberg’s sources, Nintendo has already told its suppliers and production partners to prepare for an increase in unit manufacture for the coming fiscal year, which will begin in spring. The report suggests that Nintendo remains confident in the demand for Switch hardware, which it expects to remain high for at least the remainder of 2023. Additionally, the boosted production hopes to cover the spread, given that COVID-19 severely impacted all aspects of industry over the past two years.

With the launch of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom scheduled for May 12, it would not be surprising to see a limited edition themed Switch unit launched alongside the highly anticipated title — the sequel to one of the most popular Switch releases ever, 2017’s The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. It remains to be seen whether Nintendo has the release schedule necessary to lure in players who are yet to already own a Switch, but given the fact that the publisher has shifted over 114 million consoles in the past six years, it would be prudent not to bet against it.
