It seems as though slapstick battle royale title Fall Guys, (previously Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout), is pulling in the punters once again — developer Mediatonic has announced that the past weekend saw the madcap multiplayer game hit a dizzying high of 20 million players, following the release of the long-time-coming Nintendo Switch and Xbox ports as well as the unlocking of Fall Guys as a free-to-play title.

MASSIVE THANK YOU TO ALL WHO HAVE STUMBLED!” reads an enthusiastic tweet. “We reached an incredible 20 million players in the first 48 hours of Free For All …see you this weekend my beans!”

Originally released on PC and PlayStation back in 2020, Fall Guys quickly won over the hearts of players worldwide with its very silly but immensely compelling action. For the uninitiated, players take control of one of 60 individually controlled “beans” before competing against 59 other players in a series of fun games and challenges to be crowned the Last Bean Standing.

With simplistic controls and gameplay, a welcoming “game show” aesthetic, and an ever-growing wardrobe of silly costumes and accessories, Fall Guys enjoyed a staggeringly healthy launch period, before tapering off somewhat in 2021, though it is still very easy to find a full lobby of players ready to rumble. By adding further console ports, and unlocking the paid entry to the title, Mediatonic has clearly given its smash-hit title a fresh shot of adrenaline, ready to delight and frustrate players all over again.

Fall Guys is available now, free-to-play, on PlayStation, PC, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch platforms.
